Fasting humbles us and reminds us that we rely on the Word of God and His sustaining power. To "seek His face" requires effort. We encourage you to pray, read Scripture in place of what you fast from.
How do I fast?
About fasting
2 Chronicles chapter 7 teaches us to humble ourselves and pray, seek the face of God and turn from our wicked ways.It is humbling to fast. It reveals our dependence on pleasure and satisfaction. It also reminds us that life is more than our experience in the flesh. Jesus quoted Deuteronomy, "Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God."
While a traditional fasting is from all food we also see in scripture that Daniel fasted from specific foods. The purpose is to shift your focus from the food/pleasure to seeking God in its place.Be mindful about what you decide to fast. If you are diabetic, ensure that you take the proper precautions to fast. The same goes for any other physical conditions you manage.
What should I
fast from?
When you ask yourself what to fast from, consider the following questions:
What receives more attention in my life than it deserves?
What am I afraid to fast from?
How will replace what I fast from with intentional time seeking God?
